Sustainability and Carbon Reduction
Higson Edwards recognises the importance of sustainability and the role our industry plays in the transition to a lower-carbon economy.
We have established a baseline carbon footprint across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 using recognised GHG Protocol methodologies and have committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in line with UK Government targets.
As a steel stock holding company, our principal environmental impact relates to the embodied carbon of purchased steel. We are therefore focusing our carbon reduction efforts on:
- Engaging with suppliers to understand and reduce embodied carbon
- Increasing the use of recycled and lower-carbon steel where available
- Improving energy efficiency and fuel use across our operations
Sustainability considerations are being increasingly embedded into our procurement and operational decision-making, and we will continue to develop our approach as the steel sector decarbonises.
